BERLANDO DRAKE

Berlando Drake grew up in Chicago, affectionately known as the “Windy City”. Thanks to her mom, she had an early passion for picture books and writing. Her mother frequently read stories but could write a narrative poem for just about any situation or interesting encounter. Berlando has fond memories of the spirited humor in those rhythmic verses. Her appreciation for the art of delivering a great story began with her dad, the greatest storyteller of all time. His imaginative, mesmerizing tales brilliantly captured the attention of everyone at all her sleepovers.

Berlando has been a DJ, a recording artist, editor of a newsletter, self-employed, and has taught improv classes to children. She has a passion for entertaining and has traveled the world performing live music as a singer, performed in musical theater productions, and was in a Broadway musical. As a firefighter, Berlando has experience with giving talks to children and now she enjoys writing stories for kids. She is a member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI).
